C. Choi asked:

For over 3000 years, the Chinese have been using green tea to treat all sorts of ailments, such as headaches and gastronomic problems. With a growing number of scientific data, there is no doubt that green tea is as essential for maintaining good health.

The secret to green tea lies in its rich source of anti-oxidants and polyphenols. Both are essential components for maintaining human body functions. Green tea is an even greater source of anti-oxidants than broccoli or strawberries. Here is a list of the top five benefits of green tea:

1. Fights cancer

Green tea has been proven to shrink tumors and extend the lifespan of those with dire physical ailments. It has been scientifically proven to kill cancer cells.

2. Lowers cholesterol levels

Scientists believe the high levels of polyphenols in green tea aids in lowering the cholesterol levels of patients who have had little success with conventional medication.

3. Fights tooth decay

Green tea’s bacteria-destroying abilities not help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacteria that causes dental plaque.

4. Lowers chance of heart disease

Large amounts of polyphenols have been found to reverse the negative effects of smoking or a fatty diet (two common factors which lead to heart disease).

5. Promotes weight loss

New scientific evidence shows that green tea helps burn calories when used in conjunction with exercise. It may even off set hunger cravings and a need to snack throughout the day. Green tea maintains the body’s blood sugar level, discouraging the body’s need for binge eating.

Jared Bryant asked:

One of the health advantages of drinking green tea is losing weight and getting more trim. A study conducted by the University of Geneva in Switzerland demonstrated that by mixing tea extract and caffeine burns more calories that caffeine on its own. The health advantages to drinking green tea every day have been demonstrated through numerous studies in the last 10 years, not to mention the wisdom from ancient China. Can it be considered as a miracle tea?

There are several convenient ways in which the health benefits of Green tea may be taken. Liquid tea can be enjoyed any time, but there are also many supplements available, including capsules.

A limited clinical study found that green tea was very helpful in preventing tooth decay that results in cavities. More studies must be done. The chances of getting heart attacks or strokes can be lessened by drinking tea leaf. One can lower bad cholesterol, while simultaneously increasing good cholesterol levels by consuming green tea, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Researchers at a medical center say that drinking tea meant men had lower cholesterol than those who didn’t, maybe because its polyphenols carry cholesterol through the body rapidly so there’s less absorption.

It’s been found that drinking tea can have a big effect on health. Leaf tea is an antioxidant, but in addition it may prevent cancer and arthritis as well as protect the heart and liver. It may be best not to drink green tea at night, since it is caffeinated and can cause insomnia. This is not a big concern, as the amount of caffeine found in tea is less than coffee. It seems that tea drinkers have slimmer waistlines than those who don’t. It was discovered via a survey done by U. S. National Health and Nutrition that drinking at least two cups of tea daily helps men stay slimmer than men who don’t do this.

Those who want to lose weight can be helped by the addition of this tea to their diet. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, men who drink green tea daily will burn more calories than those that don’t.

For cancer protection, studies recommend you may drink three or more cups of green tea daily. But an extract that can be ingested as a supplement is available, too. According to research, these components help lower cholesterol, reduces fat, reduces chances of having a stroke, helps alleviate heart disease and cancer problems, and helps refresh the entire body!

Carolyn Clayton asked:

Much has been made of green tea and the studies associated with its health benefits. Something of course that the Chinese have known for thousands of years. Used for eye health, anti aging, weight loss and general health maintenance, tea has been a staple of the oriental diet for centuries. They don’t just drink tea they eat it!

Tea leaves come from the bush Camellia Sinensis. It was originally found growing wild in China on bushes reaching 40ft high. Today we know it as the good old British cuppa. 80% of tea consumed worldwide is black and the British drink more than most, even though the oxidisation process from green to black tea is shown to drastically reduce the amount of health giving polyphenols and Vitamin C.

The different variations and qualities of tea all come from the same plant and are determined by the time of picking, and from where on the bush the leaves come from; the sweetest tenderest coming from the first picking called ‘first flush’. Recent studies show the possibility of reducing the risk of cancer and arthritis, preventing dental caries as well as having anti bacterial properties, amongst it’s other qualities.

The best tea is shipped in small quantities and some varieties will only have about 30 tons grown, so you have to buy from a good source after the Spring harvest to get it as fresh as possible or even get it at all. So how do you know which is the good stuff and where can you get it?

• Find a company (usually on the net) that specialises in tea and don’t be afraid to contact them and ask questions. They are run usually by tea aficionados who are more than happy to talk tea.

• Look for first flush (or lower down the plant) 1st or 2nd flag teas.

• LongJin or Dragonwell tea should be sweet and have long hand rolled leaves (broken leaves will leech out more caffeine)

• Expect to pay around £10 upward for 125g.

Expensive? Not so, you should get at least 3 cups of tea from one pinch and the leaves be so sweet and long that you can eat them afterward; or save them, add more water to make an anti bacterial liquid to freshen pongy feet – fantastic!

• Trust your palette, buy a tea you enjoy

Whilst the health properties remain unofficially unproven, it is still the healthier version of a cup of good old builders!

Michael Russell asked:

Historical evidence suggests that tea leaves boiled in water were consumed as far back as 5,000 years ago in India and China. These two countries were the earliest users of tea. Tea also plays a very important part in social rituals of Japan. In Asian countries tea has long played an important cultural role.

Tea is derived from leaves of a plant called Camellia sinensis. The plant is grown in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

There are three types of tea – Green, black and oolong. All of these are derived from Camellia sinensis, the difference lying in the way the leaves are processed. Green tea is prepared from leaves that are not fermented; oolong tea is prepared from partially fermented leaves, while black tea leaves are fully fermented. Green and oolong tea are mostly consumed in Asian countries like China, Japan, India and Thailand, while black tea is preferred in United States.

In recent periods green tea has attracted a lost of attention due to many health benefits attributed to it. Many studies have been conducted which explore the link between consumption of green tea and incidence of certain diseases in the population. It has been observed that green tea is helpful in:

- preventing cancer,

- improving the ratio of ‘good’ (HDL) cholesterol to ‘bad’ cholesterol,

- cognition,

- treating flatulence,

- regulating blood sugar,

- regulating body temperature,

- improving digestion.

In some studies it was suggested that the lower incidence of heart related diseases in the French population in spite of the consumption of a fat rich diet is related to the drinking of large quantities of green tea by them. This may be compared to the lower incidence of heart diseases in Japanese population, 75% of which are heavy smokers.

The medicinal properties of green tea are attributed to the presence of polyphenols, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants help prevent the damage caused by free radicals present in body. Free radicals occur naturally, but they grow in numbers due to some environmental conditions like pollution, ultra-violet light, cigarette smoke etc. Green tea contains 30% to 40% polyphenols, while black tea contains up to 10% polyphenols.

3 to 4 cups of green tea is recommended for an adult.

Green tea has been found to be beneficial in following conditions :

(1) People who drink green tea are found to have lower LDL cholesterol levels and higher HDL cholesterol levels. One study conducted in animals suggests that polyphenols may help inhibit the absorption of cholesterol by intestines thus helping in the excretion of cholesterol from body.

(2) Though it has not yet been conclusively proved that drinking of green tea is related to the lower incidence of caner in Japan, yet some studies conducted in animals indicate that polyphenols that act as antioxidants may be responsible for killing the cancer cells.

(3) It was found in certain studies that polyphenols help control Type 1 diabetes. The body stops producing insulin in Type 1 diabetes. Green tea can be helpful in regulating levels of glucose in the blood in such cases.

(4) Green tea has also been found to be beneficial for the liver. It helps control the damaging effect of alcohol on it. People who drink green tea are found to have lower incidence of liver diseases.

(5) Green tea may also be helpful in reducing weight in obese people. Though not conclusively proved, weight reducing properties of polyphenols have been noted in some studies.

In some cases, however, certain precautions need to be taken while taking green tea.

People with stomach ulcers, heart problems, hyperthyroidism and psychological disorders should not take green tea. Pregnant women should also avoid it. Green tea should also be avoided if one is taking any of the following medications: anti-biotics, Benzodiazepines, Beta blockers, blood thinning medicines, chemotherapy, oral contraceptives and lithium.

It contains powerful antioxidants which help to fight aging as well as many diseases including cancer. As well as being a very healthy drink it can also help you to lose weight…Read entire article

Green Tea Weight Loss Miracle

How Drinking 3 Cups of Green Tea a Day Can Help You Lose Weight and Improve Your Health.

Green and black tea originate from the same plant but the difference is that black tea has been allowed to ferment whereas green tea hasn’t. As a result green tea retains more tannins and has less caffeine.

Green tea has great health benefits as it contains powerful antioxidants which promote anti aging as well as help to fight diseases including cancer. Just a couple of cups of green tea a day will help to boost your immune system.

It can also lower blood pressure and reduce stress levels.

Make sure that you leave the tea bag in the cup for minimum 3 minutes to allow infusion of it’s powerful properties. Unlike black tea green tea is drunk without the addition of milk, this alone saves you calories especially if you enjoy your daily cupa but want to lose weight!

Tea contains polyphenols which have anti cancer, anti viral and anti inflammatory properties. Green tea contains a type of polyphenol called catechins which seem to have an effect on fat loss by helping to burn calories and reduce cholesterol. Catechins are thought to help prevent the accumulation of fat in the body.

Green tea is also a great aid to weight loss as it increases the metabolic rate and may also help regulate blood sugar levels. This is also good news if you are diabetic.

Just drinking between 3 to 5 cups a day will burn about 70 calories a day, however green tea can be an acquired taste and some people just can’t stand the taste.

If you are one of these people or just don’t have time to make yourself 3 or 5 cups of green tea every day then you may be happy to hear that green tea can be purchased in tablet form.

It’s very important if you are losing weight to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
Henri K. Junttila asked:

Green tea has been proven in multiple scientific studies to be very beneficial to your health in a variety of different ways, and it doesn’t matter what form you consume the green tea in either. You can drink it or take the green tea tablet form.

With its main ingredient EGCG, you will be able to enjoy the many benefits that the green tea tablets have to offer. Benefits of taking green tea tablets include: fighting against heart disease, high blood pressure, and even the symptoms of arthritis.

Some studies have proven that green leaf tea provides benefits against tumors and cancer because of its antioxidant qualities. It has been proven to help lower cholesterol points, fight against diabetes, and even helps with weight loss. With all of these benefits, why not try green tea today?

You may not like the taste of green leaf tea; however, you are not limited to actually drinking the tea. Green tea is also available in several other forms, including supplements. Supplements provide the exact same benefits, just without the taste that you do not like.

One of the major benefits of taking green leaf tea tablets instead of actually drinking the green tea is the fact that you will not consume the caffeine that is present in the tea form. The tablets do not contain caffeine; therefore, they are idea for those of you who are not allowed to consume caffeine because of other health concerns that you may have.

Also, you will not have worry about having to drink so many cups of the tea in a day in order for it to be beneficial. You will only have to worry about taking the one pill per day and that is it. Doesn’t that seem so much simpler? Just pick out that one certain time during your day where you can remember and make it a habit to take the pill. After that, it’s just a walk in the park.

Because the tablets are made from the extract of the green leaf tea, you actually get more of the necessary polyphenols in the tablet than you would if you were drinking it in the tea form.

So, if you are looking for a supplement that can provide you with the same health benefits as green tea, where you only have to worry about taking it once a day, then definitely look into the tablets and supplements.

If you’re confused with all the information online about different vitamins, minerals and nutrients, there is a better option…multivitamin supplements! By taking a multivitamin supplement, you can get all the health benefits without the hassle of buying different nutrients and herbal extracts.

Don Williams asked:

Green tea is made using tea leaves that have not been processed. The tea leaves are withered and then steamed, unlike other teas that are fermented. The tea is made using one teaspoon of green tea in a 5 ounce cup. Water for the tea should be between 70 to 85 degrees Centigrade and the tea must be brewed for at least a couple of minutes. Some good quality teas can be steeped two or three times. The pot holding the tea should be warmed so that the green tea does not cool down very rapidly.

Green tea contains Polyphenols which are said to be very beneficial to good health. It also contains a number of vitamins and minerals which further benefit the body. It has very potent antioxidant properties and these properties help it to fight free radicals which can otherwise cause cancer.

Tea has antioxidants called catechins which when they enter the body, look for free radicals that can damage the DNA and cause cancer and blood clots. However these catechins are not easily absorbed by the body and therefore there is a debate as to the amount of green tea that is to be consumed before you can get the full benefits.

Green tea does also provide a few minutes of pleasure while you are sipping the tea but can also be used externally to heal blemishes, cuts, rashes, fight body odor and help the skin.

Tea also fights against flu, prevents infection and strengthens the circulatory system.

A soothing spray can be made from green tea by steeping the leaves in boiling or very hot water for about 20 minutes. Then allow the tea to cool and then refrigerate the solution.

You can use this spray made of green tea to perk up your bath water and give a cooling effect. Immersing your feet in a basin of water to which this cool spray has been added can do wonders for tired feet. It will also act as an antifungal agent and move these harmful fungi from your feet. These fungi are quite often the result of poor hygiene and lack of cleanliness in the stockings or socks that you wear.

This spray can also be used as a mouth wash and it is quite common for green tea drinkers to leave out some of the earlier brewed tea so that it can be used next morning as a mouth wash.

Abrasions, cuts, burns and rashes can be treated with a cotton pad saturated with the green tea and applied to the afflicted part. Repeating this, three or four times a day is guaranteed to be beneficial. Similarly minor sunburns can also be treated with the pad being left on for about a quarter of an hour.

Strained eyes can benefit largely if cotton pads soaked in tea are placed over them for at least 10 minutes at a time. This would also reduce the puffiness in the eyes and get rid of any redness.

Even the spent leaves have their uses. Place them in footwear and these can ensure that your feet are always healthy.

James Daltons asked:

With the growth of the supplement market in America there are so many different products that are out there to help you. These products are able to do a wide range of things, from treating medical conditions to helping in replacing vital minerals and substances. One such supplement that is gaining popularity is the green tea extract. This article will examine what it is and the different uses of it.

Green tea has been used for countless years as a medical treatment for many different health conditions. The tea has been known to aide in the treatment of body aches, headaches and poor digestion. Generally it helps the body, while also improving a persons well being. The green tea extract is derived from the leaves of the plant. The extract is rich and contains bioflavonoid, which is a substance that is used to fight the dangerous free radicals of the body. The extract is also known to contain very high levels of polyphenols, which is a very good and effective antioxidant.

The Green tea extract is also used as method to control and aide in weight loss. It is known to increase the metabolism of the body, and this is effective in increasing the heart rate. The extract also contains EGCG that is known to protect the body against a wide range of conditions such as respiratory and digestive infections. It is also good at reducing cholesterol levels, aides in the fight against heat disease. It also blocks the actions of carcinogens which promotes cancer

Typically there are no side effects that are associated with taking the Green Tea Extract. However it does contain caffeine and this should be noted to people. Individuals who have health conditions that can be affected by caffeine should be careful when taking it. There are also some people who have complained of having insomnia because of the amount of caffeine included in the product. Before taking the extract people should consult with their doctor if they have any conditions. This holds true for people who are pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant.
