Hilary Templeton asked:

Not many consumers are aware of the fact that decaffeinating of green tea is not a complete process. A little bit of caffeine is definitely left behind so if the package of green tea you have says it is free of all caffeine you will have to take that with a pinch of caffeine. Caffeine is a natural constituent in tea of any form including green tea.

To Have Or Not To Have Caffeine

Among the various types of tea available black tea is believed to be the richest in caffeine content. Green tea has a lesser amount of caffeine as compared to black tea but the percentage is definitely more than what is normally found in white tea. Coffee scores more than tea when it comes to the level of caffeine in it .It contains 30-50% more caffeine than tea does.

Smaller leaves on tea plants and tealeaves that have been subjected to longer period of fermentation are believed to be richer in caffeine. Tea is also a rich source of anti-oxidants that are so vital to the functioning of the human body. Some believe that the process of decaffeination of green tea destroys most of the naturally found, essential nutrients ultimately making it a beverage that serves only one purpose mostly that is, supply of some form of liquid to the body and the warm, refreshing feeling that the remaining constituents in the tea probably provide.

If you are one of those who cannot normally tolerate caffeine, but would still like to partake of the beneficial effects of green tea, it would be fair to warn you that decaffeinated green tea is not totally free of caffeine. Many doctors in Sacramento, including Christopher Freville recommend it would be wise to look for alternatives that probably have similar health benefits and avoid considering caffeine free green tea as a healthy option.

In fact you could consider other herbal beverages such as infusions instead. Contrary to popular belief herbal infusions beverages have nothing to do with tea. They are generally made of herbs and flowers and the extract, which is believed to have medicinal properties, can be brewed in a similar manner as tea bags.

If you are not caffeine intolerant and are just trying to cut down on your caffeine intake, you should definitely switch to caffeine free green tea. Your intake of caffeine is limited to the minute amount still left after the decaffeination and you still get to benefit from the multitude of health benefits that green tea boasts of.

Darren E Smith asked:

Green tea like the rest of the varieties of tea has its origins in the leaves of the plant that is referred to scientifically as “Camellia Sinensis”. Make sure that that the tea you purchase contains Camellia Sinensis, many teas are just blends that won’t give you the health benefits. The other three varieties would be the oolong tea, the white tea and the black tea. The Middle East, China, Hong Kong, Japan an Taiwan are basically the locations where the practice of drinking green tea is most popular, although now the west has realized the health benefits which come with drinking the tea. The studies on green tea pronounces it as being the least oxidized variety of these other kinds of tea that are drunk all over the world. But now we know that it is white tea that is goes through the least amount of processing among all varieties of tea.

The discovery of tea has a long mythical past when it was suddenly brewed in a Chinese emperor’s tea as a result of a few tea leaves landing in a kettle of boiling water. The good fortune was that the emperor decided to drink that potion and realized that this was a drink that he would not mind tasting. Thus began tea drinking and since then there have been innumerable innovations introduced to its manufacture and plantation. With the progress of history, China began trading with other countries and this resulted in the need to take tea leaves out of the country to be carried over great distances. China always has a great deal of pride associated with tea as it seems to have arrived from the emperors time. Now how was preservation carried out when it came to tea leaves being imported?

The process involved the steaming of wild tea leaves on bamboo trays and subsequent grinding of tea leaves into a fine pulp like substance that was called tea mud. Tea mud was then left o solidify and thus harden. Following this hardening the sample was then dried out in the sun and baked after that to stop rotting of this sample. The Tang dynasty in China introduced such a processing method for the first time. There are other different models of processing green tea that are prevalent today.

The association between green tea and health benefits has been known since as early as the 9th century. With life progressing to make lifestyles more stressful and difficult, there was an incredible need felt of something that would act as some kind of a stress reliever or basically something that would rid them of their anxieties. For the last 4000 years the Chinese have been writing the history of green tea as a stress reliever and this makes it an immediate solution to the problems of modern lifestyles. Both oriental and occidental sciences have qualified green tea as an anxiety reducing substance and this has led to the widespread popularity of this kind of tea. Additional health benefits have been discovered nowadays that pertain to the capacity of this kind of tea of reducing chances of esophageal cancer and in fact there are well founded claims of green tea being an efficient anti carcinogenic liquid.

Also green tea is known for acting as a cure or preventive measure in cases of ailments like

* High cholesterol depositions
* General infections
* Tooth decay
* Rheumatoid arthritis
* Food poisoning

Given the fact that green tea is a treasure of antioxidants its role as described above and a more general role of acting, as a stimulant is widely known to people. Thus there is the natural association between green tea and health that we all are aware of. Hot or cold, both ways it’s also a tasty drink, if made properly and all that is left for you now, is to switch to the healthy beverage of the new age.

Thomas Cerret asked:

Are you planning to lose weight? If so, then you ought to know the slimming benefits of green tea. If you are not a tea drinker by habit or if you simply do not have the time to brew your own cup of tea, then, you can consider taking tablets instead.

Green tea tablets contain green tea extract which we know has slimming benefits. It can help a dieter lose weight easily. It is also known to aid digestion. It is also popular for the way it lowers the bad cholesterol levels in the body, thus, helping you maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. With all these health benefits, green tea remains to be a popular choice not just among dieters but also those who want to lead healthy lifestyles. Now that we know some of the health and slimming down benefits of green tea, it follows that the tablets containing the green tea extract can bring you the same effects.

You can now easily buy tea tablets from health stores. Now, you get the right amount of dosage of green tea extract with every pill or capsule. If you find it too inconvenient to brew a cup of tea, then taking tablets is your convenient solution. Instead of spending time boiling water, preparing tea leaves, and drinking your cup of tea, you can simply pop a tablet into your mouth and get the same healthy benefits. There would be no messy preparations, no water to boil or even cups to wash. Indeed, the invention of these tablets is quite convenient.

Tablets are very convenient for those who have busy schedules. If you want to keep green tea benefits up, then you do not have to waste a minute of your time preparing tea. You can bring your tablets anywhere you go. That means that you can have them at home, in the car, in the office or even in your hotel room. To put it simply, you can take these tablets any time and anywhere so your health aims would never have to be pushed aside with a busy schedule or a mobile lifestyle.

Perseverance and consistency is important in weight loss. If you want to lose a specific amount of pounds or inches off your body, then you have to follow your program religiously. If the intake of tea is included ion your diet program then substituting the traditional cups of tea with tablets is more convenient and practical. With easy to take and easy to bring tablets, you will not have to miss any of the needed green tea required intake.

Dieting can indeed be challenging. However, you can lighten the load by employing more convenient methods. With the help of tablets, you would never have to find it difficult to consume your set amount of green tea. You know that you are getting the right amounts of antioxidants and such with every tablet you take.

Don Williams asked:

Green tea is made using tea leaves that have not been processed. The tea leaves are withered and then steamed, unlike other teas that are fermented. The tea is made using one teaspoon of green tea in a 5 ounce cup. Water for the tea should be between 70 to 85 degrees Centigrade and the tea must be brewed for at least a couple of minutes. Some good quality teas can be steeped two or three times. The pot holding the tea should be warmed so that the green tea does not cool down very rapidly.

Green tea contains Polyphenols which are said to be very beneficial to good health. It also contains a number of vitamins and minerals which further benefit the body. It has very potent antioxidant properties and these properties help it to fight free radicals which can otherwise cause cancer.

Tea has antioxidants called catechins which when they enter the body, look for free radicals that can damage the DNA and cause cancer and blood clots. However these catechins are not easily absorbed by the body and therefore there is a debate as to the amount of green tea that is to be consumed before you can get the full benefits.

Green tea does also provide a few minutes of pleasure while you are sipping the tea but can also be used externally to heal blemishes, cuts, rashes, fight body odor and help the skin.

Tea also fights against flu, prevents infection and strengthens the circulatory system.

A soothing spray can be made from green tea by steeping the leaves in boiling or very hot water for about 20 minutes. Then allow the tea to cool and then refrigerate the solution.

You can use this spray made of green tea to perk up your bath water and give a cooling effect. Immersing your feet in a basin of water to which this cool spray has been added can do wonders for tired feet. It will also act as an antifungal agent and move these harmful fungi from your feet. These fungi are quite often the result of poor hygiene and lack of cleanliness in the stockings or socks that you wear.

This spray can also be used as a mouth wash and it is quite common for green tea drinkers to leave out some of the earlier brewed tea so that it can be used next morning as a mouth wash.

Abrasions, cuts, burns and rashes can be treated with a cotton pad saturated with the green tea and applied to the afflicted part. Repeating this, three or four times a day is guaranteed to be beneficial. Similarly minor sunburns can also be treated with the pad being left on for about a quarter of an hour.

Strained eyes can benefit largely if cotton pads soaked in tea are placed over them for at least 10 minutes at a time. This would also reduce the puffiness in the eyes and get rid of any redness.

Even the spent leaves have their uses. Place them in footwear and these can ensure that your feet are always healthy.

Jennifer Seaton asked:

You can have it hot or cold, black or green, herbal or lemon; yes what we are talking about is tea. Tea is the most popular beverage worldwide. The discovery of tea was done in 2700bc by a Chinese emperor, also a scientist, Shen Nung. In the Indian and Japanese legend tea was supposedly discovered by a Buddhist missionary monk Daruma. Shen Nung had discovered tea when some leaves from the garden fell into his pot of boiling water resulting in a refreshing drink where as it is believed Daruma on being disappointed of himself for not being able to complete his nine year meditation had cut off his eyelids and thrown it on the ground from which originated the tea plant. It was the monkeys who were first trained to pick tea leaves.

Tea slowly gained popularity among the French and the Dutch, but due to its high cost remained a drink for the wealthy. With the passage of time and the increasing popularity different processes of brewing, preparing and drinking tea was evolved. Marquise de seven was the first to have mentioned the addition of milk to tea giving the drink a new dimension.

Tea was first taken to Europe by the Dutch in the 1600bc. In the 1700bc tea was first sold in a fashionable coffee house by Thomas. John Dorniman was the first to sell tea in nett weighed packets. The first European to write about tea was father Jasper De Cruz, in the year 1560, who tasted the drink at a missionary. The duchess of Bedford originated the custom of afternoon tea but the credit turning it into a pastime should be given to Queen Victoria.

Tea was originally grown in china and exported to Europe and other parts of the world. china emerged as the trader of tea . Due to the steep rise in demand and also to keep a check on the balance of trade the Europeans started looking for other places where tea could be grown .this search gave birth to the tea fields of India . Later Europe imported tea from India followed by Ceylon.

The history of tea also enhances our general knowledge. When we move back in time, we learn that the practice of tipping was developed in the tea gardens of England where a small wooden locked box labeled tips (to insure prompt service) was kept for its customers. Customers came and went by, years and centuries passed by, only to take to new heights the refreshing drink called Tea.
